Custom-made windows – everything you want to know
What are the dimensions of standard windows?
Typical windows, or standard windows, are plastic window joinery with predetermined, most popular dimensions on the market. They are specified in the industry standard BN-85/7153-02 addressed to PVC window manufacturers. This document contains the dimensions of several dozen windows and balcony doors. The standard not only specifies their constant dimensions (width and height), but also the method of opening the leaves and the division of individual sections.
The list of typical, i.e. standard, windows includes single- or double-leaf tilt and tilt-and-turn windows. Standard windows, unlike custom-made windows, have sashes that open in a predetermined way and in a specific direction. The most popular dimensions of typical windows are – in the case of single-leaf models – 865 x 1135 or 1435 mm, and for double-leaf windows – 1165 x 1135 mm and 1465 x 1435 mm.
Where are typical windows used today?
Are you planning to order window joinery and don’t know whether to choose standard windows or custom-made windows? Less than a decade ago, standard windows, i.e. with predetermined dimensions, were chosen by almost 50-60 percent. private investors. They used ready-made or individual architectural designs of single-family houses with planned typical windows.
This approach required the use of windows with specific dimensions, divisions and opening methods. Therefore, the buildings were similar in appearance to each other in terms of their facades, and did not always offer functionality tailored to the lifestyle of the residents (e.g. due to pre-defined divisions or opening methods). Today, in single-family construction, almost 90 percent investors focus on custom-made windows. Typical windows are successfully used in development construction, e.g. in apartment blocks, as well as when replacing windows in old buildings.
